If your hands are cold, rub them together for a moment. A cold hand is not a good way to start a massage. 1. EFFLEURAGE (from French \u2013 light touching ). These long, stroking movements form the basis of most massages (whether they are relaxing, erotic, sports, or aromatherapy). They aid blood flow in the veins and allow fresh blood to circulate more freely. The movement begins with a deep press on the back and upward pressure toward the heart. The return movement is a light, stroking motion away from the heart across the back toward the sides. The entire hand must be relaxed and adapt to the shape of the body as it glides smoothly and rhythmically over the skin. 2. KNEADING . A strong movement that stimulates muscle tissue, increases blood circulation, and helps reduce fatigue by facilitating the removal of metabolic waste products (especially lactic acid) from the muscles. Grasp a fleshy part of the body in the palm of your hand and press and knead it with one hand, then transfer it to the other hand. Grasp the skin next to it and repeat the undulating movements as if you were kneading dough. Proceed slowly and rhythmically after relaxing the entire area using effleurage. 3. FRICTION. These movements stimulate circulation and help remove excess fluid. Press the pad of your thumb against the skin and move it in deep circles with gentle pressure. After a few movements, glide gently to the next area. Always maintain contact with the skin. On large areas of skin, use circular movements of the palms instead of the thumbs. ARM MASSAGE Apply a small drop of oil to each arm. Hold the person\u2019s arm with one hand and use the other to massage upward from the wrist along the outer side of the arm. Repeat the motion on the inner side of the arm. Knead areas of cellulite on the back of the upper arm and use circular rubbing motions on areas affected by rheumatism. Knead the shoulder muscles and finish with a few upward and downward strokes along the arm, letting your hand drop from the fingertips. Repeat the same on the other arm.
